Hook the Hawg Salmon Derby set for April 1-2

The Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce will host its annual “Hook the Hawg” Salmon Derby on April 1-2. This will be the 4th year for the derby. The event will take place at Elochoman Slough Marina in Cathlamet.

The “Hook the Hawg” Salmon Derby is a fundraising event for the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce. Funds raised at this event help to provide a high school senior with a scholarship to attend a college, university, or trade school after graduation. In addition, funds raised help to contribute towards future chamber community events.

The event will be a two-day fishing event commencing at 4:30 a.m., on Friday, April 1st and finishing in the evening on Saturday, April 2nd. Plan to check in at the chamber’s booth in the morning each day to ensure you are checked in for the derby. All salmon should be gilled and not gutted. Friday’s weigh-in will occur between 2-5 p.m. Weigh-in for Saturday will also occur between 2-5 p.m. Cash prizes, two custom fishing rods and more will be awarded for the largest salmon caught.
