Wahkiakum Mule Golf

The Wahkiakum Mule golf team notched their first victories of the 2016 season Monday at home at Skyline Golf Course, scoring 211 to Raymond's 233 while South Bend and Willapa Valley both came in with incomplete's (which means they didn't have enough players to complete a four person match).

Junior Sarah Shi and sophomore Bryce Good led the Mules, both tying for second shooting a 47. Eighth graders Tyler St. Onge 52 and Gage Horman 64 completed the four person scorecard.

Tyson Johnson from South Bend medalled with a nice round of 39. After opening the season with two losses the Mules upped their record to 3-2.

In 2015, the Mules logged a string of incomplete losses fielding only two players for the entire year. These were the Mules' first wins since they clinched the league title at Willapa Valley in May of 2014. The next match is today (Thursday) at Ilwaco.

The young Mules had a tough start of the 2016 season March 17 at one of the most challenging golf courses in the State, RMG, Oakbrook in Lakewood.

The four-person total of 224 fell 26 shots short of Life Christian's 198 and Ilawco's 210.

Shi's 48 led the boys team and finished 5th out of the 16 boys that played and second best among the nine ladies that competed. Sophomore Bryce Good struggled from the tee box all day and shot 57 which was way off his regular game. Freshman Zachary Johnston shot 59 which was amazing for a brand new golfer with just nine practices. It was his first ever nine hole round.

Eighth graders Tyler St. Onge 59 and Elijah Doiron 69 were disappointed with their first ever high school match but kept their spirits up throughout the entire round.

I was proud of the entire team's effort. Things didn't go as planned but every player is anxious to get back to work
