Finnish film to show Saturday at Appelo Archives Center

“Leningrad Cowboys Go American” is a 1989 Finnish film written and directed by Aki Kaurismäki. It will be shown on Saturday, March 19, at 11:00 a.m., at the Appelo Archives Center, 1056 SR 4, Naselle, WA, two miles east of the Naselle schools.

The PG-13 film is 78 minutes. It is in Russian and Finnish with English subtitles. There is no admission charge, but donations are appreciated.

The comedic plot is about an extremely inept band from Siberia with foot-long hairstyles and long Winklepicker shoes to match, who are talked into making it big in America. Their New York promoter isn’t impressed, so he sends them to Mexico to play for a wedding. Thus, begins a long journey in a Cadillac limousine with a coffin strapped on top and with two of the musicians sitting in the trunk. They have many adventures stopping along the way playing gigs to pay for gas and food.
