March 26 busy with caucus, super sale

Down River Dispatches

My apologies for the shortness of this column this week as it is being composed in my husband’s hospital room in CCU. Hopefully we will be home when everyone reads it.

The Third Annual Community In-Door Super Sale is a fundraising event for the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park in Rosburg, and will take place on March 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center serves as a learning and activity center for Wahkiakum County as well as the surrounding areas. It has many free resources for the community: a computer lab and lending library (free to anyone who wishes to use it), an exercise room, a complete hallway full of paperback books to take or exchange, a gym that is maintained for area school use and aerobics, sewing classes, a commercial kitchen available for rent, meeting rooms, a satellite sheriffs office, Health and Human Services office and the West End Food Pantry. Contributions of non-perishable items can be dropped off at the center on Thursdays and at any other time during their open hours.

Food and beverages, prepared by the center, can be purchased in the cafeteria during sale hours as well as baked goods by the Grays River United Methodist Church Friendship Circle. Spaces are still available by contacting Donna, 360-465-2273, email dahardey@wwest.net; or Cheryl, 360-465-2740, email cddutch@wwest.net.

An upcoming caucus for nominating a candidate and electing delegates for the Democratic party of Washington State including the Westend caucuses that encompass the Grays River, Rosburg and Deep River precincts will be held at the Rosburg Hall on March 26 at 10 a.m. For more information you can contact Steve Puddicombe at 465-2205. This is an important step as we move to elect a new president and a chance for folks to get involved in our democracy.

This week’s Free Friday Night Movie synopsis: “Captain Etienne Navarre is a man on whose shoulders lie a cruel curse. Punished for loving each other, Navarre must become a wolf by night while his lover, Lady Isabeau, takes the form of a hawk by day. Together, with the thief Philippe Gaston, they must try to overthrow the corrupt Bishop and in doing so break the spell.”

The show is rated PG-13 and was released in 1985. Great family film. Concessions are also available and the movie starts at 7 p.m.

Happy Birthday to the following celebrants this week: Amber Parker, Ben Gross, Thomas Holland and Randy Lindstrom.

Happy Anniversary to Carson and Amanda Engelson and to Bob and Annette Bowker.
