PCEMA to participate in Cascadia Rising exercise

The Pacific County Emergency Management Agency will participate in a functional exercise called Cascadia Rising 2016.

This exercise is designed to test response capabilities and capacity on a national level in the event of a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake and subsequent tsunami.

The exercise will take place over a four-day period beginning June 7, and continue through June 10, 2016. The Pacific County Emergency Operation Center will be active on June 8, and June 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.

A functional level exercise means that there will be no movement of response equipment, and little to no outdoor or visible activity. A functional exercise is essentially an internal effort with many Pacific County agencies and entities exercising internal emergency procedures at some point during the time period of Cascadia Rising.

The final planning conference will be held March 1, 1 p.m. in the South Pacific County Sheriff’s Office, 7013 Sandridge Road, Long Beach.

These meetings are an assessment of what agencies/businesses/partners might be considering in respect to participating in Cascadia Rising. The meetings will be an introductory session for anyone interested in participating. Attendance does not commit an entity to participation.
