Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
To The Eagle:
Some of you may know that I am no longer employed with the Sheriff’s Office. I was terminated last Wednesday by Sheriff Howie. My disagreements with Sheriff Howie and Undersheriff Marshall capped a nearly 19-year career with the Sheriff’s Office.
I want to let you know how much I valued working with and knowing all of you over the years. After serving in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years as a law enforcement officer, my wife, family and I came to Cathlamet to enjoy living in this wonderful community. Next to my family, it has also been my priority to protect and serve the people of this community. Despite my issues with the leaders in the Sheriff’s office, I have thoroughly enjoyed my work and have always strived to do my best for our community.
I have started the retirement process and my family and I will continue as members of this community. I will continue to serve my community even in retirement. For the next few months or longer I intend to take a step back and settle into retirement life after which I will re-engage with community activities.
For my colleagues, volunteers and friends in the Sheriff’s Office, I ask that you continue to maintain the highest work ethic in serving the people of our community. Watch your backs and remember a couple of things I have learned after 43 years in law enforcement, no matter what words are spoken or written, be watchful of actions taken. Remember respect cannot be mandated, it is earned. Every one of you have earned my respect and gratitude for our time together. It has been my privilege.
With all my regards and best wishes, stay safe!
