Robert F. Thomas, of Cathlamet, died February 6, 2016 in Clackamas, Ore., due to complications from an earlier surgery.
He was born in 1939 in Alma, Kan., to Ethel C. and Robert F. Thomas, Sr. and moved to Portland, Ore., at the age of three. He graduated from high school in Portland and from Portland State University with a degree in Economics. Bob served in the US Army on administrative and military police duties.
His second career was as an insurance agent and broker. His third career was as a vocational school instructor. Bob’s final career was as a volunteer for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Leadership and Management School.
He was also a former vice president and president of the Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team and served as the local Kiwanis Club treasurer.
Survivors include his wife, Nicki, at home; son Greg in Portland; brother John in Mexico; several nieces and nephews; close friend Bob Adams and many golfing and fishing friends.
He was predeceased by his brother Jay.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Cowlitz County Humane Society or the Wahkiakum County SAR group activities.
A celebration of life may be held at a later date. If so, announcement will be made via newspaper and other sources.
