Chinese New Year Saturday

Down River Dispatches

News from Naselle:

Come celebrate Chinese New Year, the Year of the Monkey with members of the Chinese Mandarin Immersion program of Naselle, and all your friends and neighbors. The event will be held in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park (the old Rosburg School in Rosburg), this Saturday, February 20, 4-8 p.m.

During the evening celebration you will be treated to a traditional Chinese Dinner served buffet style, a silent auction, traditional Chinese New Year games, art activities, and end the celebration with the Lion Dance Entertainment in the gym.

Please contact Amy Chadwick, Annie Strange, Emily Lindstrom, Briane Smith, Genice Normand, or Kendall Ford for ticket purchase. Individual tickets are $25 family tickets (2 adults, 1 child, add $5 each for additional children). Visit the event website at: http://www.liuxingnaselle.weebly.com.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Immersion Program, which has become an extremely popular part of our children’s education in the Naselle/Grays River Valley School.

Westend news:

This year’s indoor Super Sale is set for Saturday, March 26 in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. Call Donna at 360-465-2273 to reserve your $15 space. Tables will not be provided, you must bring your own. We are looking forward to another fun day of buying and selling, good food, baked items for sale and just plain good company. More detailed info in next week’s column.

There will not be a Free Friday Night movie this week as we get ready to celebrate the Year of the Monkey/Chinese New Year. We will continue with movies, next week at 7 p.m. in our screening room (the cafeteria) on the big screen.

Share your passion/talents with the many friends and neighbors that wonder “how does he/she do that?” I know several people that have many talents that I envy, and I personally would love to learn how to crochet, learn tai chi (or comparable exercise), how to weave, etc. I know you are out there, so why not join us for a couple hours on a regular basis and share your expertise. Everyone knows how “I hate to cook” but I might even be tempted to take a cooking class, if it was quick and simple. How about it? Give us a call at 360-465-2310.

This year a family (immediate family) sponsorship at the Grays River Valley Center is $72 and $48 for an individual. A sponsor is able to have 24/7 access to the gym and the exercise room. We also hope to have our game room up and running soon with a pool table and other activities.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets every week in the Rosburg Hall for a delicious hot lunch prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteers.

On Thursdays a senior meal is also served and is sponsored by CAP. Lunch is served at noon for both venues.

Happy Birthday to Paul Footh, Charlie Gross, Nate Engelson, Deanna Wilson, Audrey Ulakko, Renee Pitts, Rhonda Warra, Delaney Kragerud, Judy Indermark, Shannon Tetz, Craig Mattson, Marsha Woods and Shirley Miller. Here’s to a perfect day.
