Westend news:

The Red Cross Blood Drive scheduled to take place tomorrow in the Valley Bible Church is opening up a few more opportunities for the awesome folks in our area willing to donate the life giving liquid. Times are available for walk-in donors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., but you can still contact Susan Burkhalter to make an appointment. This drive will probably determine that when the need arises for a good cause, the generosity of people in our neck of the woods won’t be outdone. I understand that the Red Cross will also have their bus there, so there should be no waiting for a spot to give. As an added bonus, you can enjoy one of April Zimmerman’s delicious sliders for a snack and you could have a chance to win a gift certificate to Mocha’s & More. Thanks to all of you who donate, the volunteers who set the event up, and God Bless the people who are given life because of your generosity.

The Valley Bible Church is located at 4723 SR 4 in Rosburg. Call Susan Burkhalter for an appointment at 465-2264.

The annual Crab and Oyster Feed, sponsored by the American Legion Deep River Post #111, will be held this Saturday. If you don’t have your ticket yet, please call Ken Elliott at 465-2271, Nick Nikkila at 465-2595 and Dale Rose at 465-2234 to see if there are any left. Tickets are $28 each, and include dinner, raffles and a dance.

On the menu: crab, oysters, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw and garlic bread.

Happy hour will take place 6-7 p.m., dinner will be served 7-8 p.m. with the raffle drawings at 8:30 p.m. followed by the dance from 9 p.m. to midnight. If you only want to attend the dance, admission is $5 per person. No outside alcoholic beverages will be permitted in the building, and no one under 21 permitted in the bar area.

The synopsis for the Free Friday Night Movie this week in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park: Three friends who are scouts, battle zombies and attempt to save their town from the undead. This is a 2015 release and is rated R.

Concessions are also available with popcorn, candy and pop for reasonable prices.

This year’s indoor Super Sale is set for March 26 in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. If you are interested in renting a space or want more information please call Cheryl Dutcher. In order to accommodate more shoppers we are trying to make arrangements for vendors to park elsewhere and are looking for a volunteer to shuttle them from another site back to the GRVC. If you are interested in that capacity please contact Cheryl.

Students, do you need more community service hours? We have several events coming up at GRVC (including the Super Sale and Spaghetti Dinner in March) where we could use your strong backs and good dispositions. For more information please call me at 465-2960.

It looks like a room in the Grays River Valley Center will soon become a Game Room, complete with a full size pool table, possibly a Foos-ball table and other activities. It could also be used for a crafts teaching room (wood working, art, knitting and crocheting, weaving, spinning, etc.). The only problem is—we need volunteers to teach these things. We have the room but need someone willing to devote the time and put in the effort to make it happen. Call me if you are interested in doing any of these things.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets every week in the Rosburg Hall for a delicious meal prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew. Lunch is served at noon.

On Thursdays, CAP also sponsors a senior lunch in the Rosburg Hall. These two venues give our local folks a great opportunity to get out, socialize with neighbors and enjoy a nice meal.
