Ever played Mario on Play-Doh or Piano on Bananas? You can do those things with Makey Makey, which is advertised as letting you “Alligator clip the Internet to Your World.“
“Thanks to Washington’s State Library, the Cathlamet Public Library has borrowed a Makey Makey lab for people to come in and experiment,” said Librarian Carol Blix. “Imagine constructing a playable cardboard guitar, a paper bongo set, or a human sound effects machine.”
Makey Makey is an open-ended invention kit people can use to create their own interactive keyboards. Chromebooks and kits including a Makey Makey circuit board, USB cable, seven alligator clips, and six connector wires, can be combined with assorted moist or metallic objects (think: fruit, vegetables, coins, aluminum foil, copper wire, and even your friends) to complete circuits that can cause the Chromebooks to make music or play videogames.
Patrons who are young, or young at heart, are invited to come during the library’s open hours (Tuesdays through Saturdays from 2-5pm) January 12-20, with items to use for their keyboards to see what they can invent. Look for project ideas at
