Sheriff's Report, January 14, 2016

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

January 4 — 8:06 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident after a fall. 12:50 p.m. A Skamokawa resident complained that a former spouse was attempting to get into the house and would not leave. 6:52 p.m. A motorist complained about being tailgated by an erratic driver on SR 4 near Cathlamet. 8:51 p.m. A caller asked to stay at the jail. The mental health department was called to see what resources were available. The individual agreed to stay with a family member for the night and be taken to Longview the following day to find shelter. 10:09 p.m. The Puget Island Fire Department responded to the report of an unattended fire on Puget Island. 11:10 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had chest pain. 11:30 p.m. A subject was taken into custody after threatening an individual with a gun during a quarrel at a Puget Island home. The gun fired when the individual attempted to deflect the weapon which had been pointed at his face. No one was injured.

January 5 — 11:28 a.m. A Cathlamet resident was concerned about a suspicious couple who claimed to be religious evangelists. A deputy drove around the area and spoke with another neighbor who said that the pair had come to his door but left when he said he wasn’t interested. 12:45 p.m. A Rosburg resident reported that his shop had been burglarized. 7:31 p.m. A caller reported that a school bus driver had struck a dog on a route near Mill Creek. The caller had attempted to locate the owners. 11:10 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Skamokawa business. A deputy found everything secure; he believed an animal sighted near the building may have set off the alarm.

January 6 — 9:36 a.m. A caller reported that batteries had been stolen from a log loader at a Deep River business. 10:00 a.m. A Rosedale resident made a complaint regarding his phone. 1:24 p.m. A wallet was found in the parking lot of a Cathlamet business. 2:11 p.m. A Deep River resident complained that her dogs became agitated when a neighbor would walk or drive slowly past her home with his dogs. She acknowledged that he had to pass her home to access SR 4. She was advised that her neighbor had the right to travel on the road without restriction. The caller then complained that her neighbor did not leash his dogs. She was advised that there was no leash law in the county. Last, she was advised to call 911 when she asked what she should do if his dogs attacked her dogs. 2:59 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Deep River resident who had lost consciousness and fallen. The individual also complained of nausea. 3:00 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that there had been fraudulent activity on her bank account. 4:25 p.m. A caller reported that a bicyclist said that he had been chased by two loose pit bulls on Beaver Creek Road. 4:58 p.m. A caller reported that a Cathlamet juvenile was missing; she may have run away. 6:17 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to a power outage at a Puget Island home. The PUD was notified and an employee was en route.

January 7 — 9:28 a.m. Child abuse was reported at an Elochoman Valley home. 12:29 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a dog was killing livestock. Deputies made contact; it will be handled as a civil matter. 12:55 p.m. A Rosedale resident had evidence of illegal dumping. An individual was taken into custody. 6:00 p.m. A caller requested assistance after being locked out of a vehicle.

January 8 — 8:26 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident who may have had a stroke. 8:58 a.m. A caller reported that a man with a mean dog was firing a weapon on a Skamokawa beach. 11:45 a.m. A Skamokawa resident asked for assistance after locking his keys in his vehicle. 12:08 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had cut his face with a chainsaw. 1:43 p.m. A caller reported a dead deer on a Puget Island road. 1:56 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported hearing a couple loud explosions nearby. 2:53 p.m. A Rosedale resident requested assistance after getting locked out of her vehicle. 5:25 p.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle on SR 4 in the Alger Creek area. 5:33 p.m. An illegal burn was seen in Cathlamet. The resident was asked to put out the fire.

January 9 — 11:03 a.m. An unwanted individual had come to a Rosedale home. 12:02 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident. 12:39 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosedale resident. The coroner was notified. 1:15 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance was called to a Cathlamet home. 1:40 p.m. A dead deer was found on the side of a Puget Island road. 3:55 p.m. There was a referral from Cowlitz County regarding more than 40 guns at a home near Mill Creek. 8:29 p.m. A Cathlamet resident complained about noisy neighbors. 9:42 p.m. A Cathlamet resident complained about bar patrons being loud; they were “yelling and screaming at the top of their lungs.” 10:04 p.m. A caller reported that a vehicle heading west on SR 4 in the Flandersville area had almost gone off the road three times.

January 10 — 7:49 a.m. A call came in regarding a junk vehicle in Deep River. 8:36 p.m. A caller reported that a truck towing a boat had broken down on SR 4 in the Flandersville area. A tow truck was called. 9:26 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen and was unable to get up.
