Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:
December 28 — 1:10 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that a neighbor’s dog had attacked her dog. 2:20 p.m. Sheep had wandered onto a Skamokawa resident’s property. The owner was contacted. 6:43 p.m. Deputies attempting to serve a warrant in the Elochoman Valley were unable to locate the subject.
December 29 — 3:46 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident who had fallen. 11:49 a.m. A caller provided information about troublesome renters including an alleged meth dealer. The caller requested that the sheriff’s office regularly drive by the Cathlamet home. 12:12 p.m. A deputy was on hand while a landlord attempted to give an eviction notice to a renter on Puget Island. The renter refused to accept the notice and would not provide the name of an attorney. A man in the apartment told the landlord that they would not leave and that he would have to go through the eviction process. 1:51 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who needed assistance being lifted into a wheelchair. 2:47 p.m. A burglary was reported at a Rosedale home. 5:05 p.m. Deputies, the District 4 Fire Department, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a two vehicle accident on SR 4 in the Rosedale area. There were no injuries. 9:56 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunk driver heading west on SR 4.
December 30 — 10:50 a.m. A caller pumping gas at a Rosedale business requested assistance after locking keys in a vehicle with an infant inside. 3:24 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident with respiratory issues. 4:26 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to the report that smoke was rising from a power pole on Beaver Creek. The PUD was notified. 5:43 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that a small group was trespassing on his property and would not leave. 5:47 p.m. A suspicious backpack was found in front of a Cathlamet business. A deputy investigated and returned the backpack to its owner.
December 31 — 9:44 a.m. A deputy provided assistance to a woman in downtown Cathlamet when she discovered that her truck battery had died. 11:09 a.m. A Rosburg resident complained that he was being harassed by his landlord after he had asked him to fix the heating in the home. A deputy determined that there had been no threats and no harassment and advised the caller that it was a civil matter. 10:34 p.m. A domestic disturbance was reported at a Cathlamet home. One person was taken into custody. 11:15 p.m. A Rosedale resident told his girlfriend that she needed to be out of the home by Monday after he broke up with her. She refused to leave.
January 1 — 2:56 a.m. A motorist reported seeing an individual walking east from Skamokawa on SR 4. The motorist, who knew the individual, stopped to ask why he was out so late and the man said he wanted to harm his family and thus did not want to go home. The motorist dropped him off in Cathlamet. A deputy spoke with a family member who acknowledged that the man sometimes became upset. She asked the deputy to alert her when he was found. He was located in downtown Cathlamet three hours later. 2:02 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident who may have had a stroke. 3:22 p.m. A caller reported that someone was trying to break into a Cathlamet home. 3:27 p.m. Deputies attempted and failed to locate an individual who was supposed to be at an Elochoman Valley address. 8:22 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Skamokawa residence. A deputy was requested. 9:06 p.m. A Puget Island resident requested assistance after being locked out of a vehicle. 9:07 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious man turning his vehicle on and off at the marina in Cathlamet.
January 2 — 6:08 a.m. Skamokawa and Grays River Fire departments and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to the report of an unoccupied house fire in Rosburg. 11:45 a.m. The District 4 Fire Department responded when a Rosedale resident reported water bubbling up from the ground. Messages were left with Town of Cathlamet employees. 2:38 p.m. A caller reported several people carrying shotguns trespassing on Puget Island property. 3:27 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that tools had been stolen. 8:46 p.m. A caller was concerned after hearing someone yell help from a nearby Puget Island residence. 9:18 p.m. A caller reported receiving an anonymous phone call from someone that was concerned about an oil spill after a recreational boat had sunk near Cathlamet. There was no one on the boat, according to the US Coast Guard, who would check out the scene the next day. A deputy got visual confirmation and talked to the owner. The owner said that fuel had been pumped out before the vessel sank.
January 3 — 5:39 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident complaining of weakness. 10:50 a.m. A caller reported finding a wallet in Cathlamet. The wallet was mailed to its owner. 10:56 a.m. A Puget Island resident complained that a neighbor had offensive signs in his windows pointing towards his home. He said it had been an ongoing problem and was advised to take out an anti-harassment order. He was also advised to call the sheriff’s office if the neighbor became threatening. 11:10 a.m. A welfare check was requested for two Elochoman Valley residents. A deputy made contact and both were fine. 12:11 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to the report of a possible brush fire on Puget Island. 1:33 p.m. The Skamokawa Fire Department checked on the sewer in Skamokawa after a warning light indicated that there was a problem. 6:28 p.m. Deputies, the District 4 Fire Department, and the Cathlamet ambulance responded when a caller reported hearing a loud crash on SR 4 near Flandersville. 9:34 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident complaining of head and abdominal pain.
January 4 — 2:53 a.m. A deputy, the Cathlamet ambulance, and a mental health representative responded to a Cathlamet home to assist a resident with a possible head injury. The individual, dressed in wet clothes and risking hypothermia, asked to go to the hospital.
