Sheriff's Report, December 17, 2015

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

December 7 — 6:53 a.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to a power outage in the Elochoman Valley. 7:47 a.m. A road report came in: several roads were closed due to high water in the Westend. 8:31 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who was in a lot of pain. 9:21 a.m. A deputy responded when a Puget Island resident complained that a couple with a truck and trailer were trespassing on his property. The trespassers believed they had permission to be there. The woman who had given permission to the couple arrived on scene and let them know that they had parked at the wrong place. 12:52 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported trespassers. 1:48 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to a power outage in Skamokawa. There was a tree lying across the lines. 1:49 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident with chest pain. 4:39 p.m. A warrant was served in the Elochoman Valley. 6:34 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Cathlamet address. A deputy responded and all was secure.

December 8 — 5:21 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident with chest pain and a history of heart problems. 5:32 a.m. A tree was down, blocking a Rosburg road. 8:11 a.m. A road report came in: Several roads in the Westend were closed, water was cresting on SR 4 near Cape Horn, and a section of West Valley road was under water. 2:04 p.m. A caller wanted to talk to a deputy about a juvenile. 2:33 p.m. A caller reported rocks on SR 4 near Nassa Point. 2:54 p.m. A caller reported that motorists were driving past road closure signs and through high water in the Grays River area. 3:09 p.m. A caller reported a large pig in a Rosburg road. Dispatch tried to discover the owner but no one claimed the animal. 3:17 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to the report of a power outage in the Elochoman Valley. It was believed to be caused by a tree in the line. The PUD was notified. 3:23 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to the report of a power outage in the Elochoman. Trees were in the lines and lines were down. The PUD advised. 3:41 p.m. A Puget Island resident complained about trespassers who were to move their truck and trailer the day before. They had not and now their vehicles were creating a trench. Deputies responded and told the two that they had 24 hours to move. 3:41 p.m. A caller reported that potential buyers of a property on Puget Island were allowing people to stay there. They had parked on the neighbor’s property without permission, and quarrels were escalating over the property lines. A realtor arrived with a diagram of the property but they were unable to ascertain the true property lines. 3:51 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that her son was missing. 5:06 p.m. A caller reported a driver passing in an unsafe area on SR 4. 5:13 p.m. The District 4 Fire Department, the Cathlamet ambulance and a deputy responded to a rollover accident on SR 4 just east of Flandersville. No one was injured. 6:11 p.m. The Grays River Fire Department, the Cathlamet Fire Department and the Grays River and Cathlamet ambulances responded after a man drove past signs warning him that the road was closed and got stuck in waist deep water in the Westend. They were able to extract him easily. The Cathlamet Fire Department got his vehicle turned around. 6:21 p.m. A caller reported large rocks on the Puget Island bridge.

December 9 — 2:07 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had had a stroke. 2:15 a.m. The Skamokawa Fire Department responded to the report of a power outage in Skamokawa. The PUD was notified. A large tree was down on a nearby road and the Wahkiakum County Road Department was notified. 5:04 a.m. A caller reported a tree down on Beaver Creek Road. The County Road Department was notified. 6:52 a.m. A caller reported rocks on SR 4 near Stella. WSDOT was notified. 6:57 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was complaining of foot pain. 11:07 a.m. A caller reported that a dog was stuck on the side of an 80 foot cliff in the Elochoman Valley. 11:19 a.m. A welfare check was requested at a Rosedale business when the proprietor did not answer the phone. 12:21 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a vehicle had been stolen by a juvenile family member. 3:30 p.m. A caller complained about a loose dog in Cathlamet. 5:03 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that she was being stalked. 5:41 p.m. Three calls came in about animals that were stranded in a flooded field in Rosburg. A responsible party was contacted. 6:13 p.m. A caller reported a missing dog from a residence near County Line Park. 7:07 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to an alarm that was activated in Cathlamet. 11:03 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Rosedale resident.

December 10 — 9:05 a.m. A caller reported that a tree was down and blocking a road in the Skamokawa area. 10:07 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was unable to stand. 10:39 a.m. A caller reported that a tree was down and partially blocking a Cathlamet street. 11:52 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported a trespasser. 12:20 p.m. Sand bag assistance was requested on Puget Island. 12:34 p.m. A caller reported water over a Skamokawa road. 12:47 p.m. A Puget Island resident requested sand bags. 12:58 p.m. A deputy responded to the report of a car in a ditch on Beaver Creek Road. The vehicle was towed. 1:10 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to the report of water coming into a Deep River home. 1:58 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to the report of a power outage in the Cape Horn area. The PUD was notified. 4:06 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that his boat, which had been tied to a dock, had capsized. 6:32 p.m. A caller reported finding an empty vehicle stuck on Beaver Creek. 7:36 p.m. A caller reported that a boat in the Cathlamet marina was taking on water. The owner, who is in a neighboring county jail, will mail a key to the port manager. 7:40 p.m. A caller was concerned about an escalating quarrel in the Elochoman Valley.

December 11 — 5:46 a.m. The ferry was shut down due to a mechanical problem. Authorities were unsure when it would be running again. 8:20 a.m. A caller reported that a large tree was down and blocking both lanes in the Elochoman Valley. County roads was notified. 12:08 p.m. The Puget Island Fire Department responded to a call for a sandbag assist. 12:40 p.m. A delivery person reported that a Cathlamet door, protected by a dog, had been open all day. 3:28 p.m. A caller reported debris on a Rosedale roadway. 3:13 p.m. A Deep River resident was concerned when a neighbor mentioned that someone had threatened to rob his residence while he was away. The caller said this is not the first time that the neighbors had been burglarized by this person. A deputy tried to make contact with the homeowners, but they were already out of town. 7:12 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen.

December 12 — 2:23 a.m. Deputies and the Puget Island Fire Department responded when a motorist hit a power pole on Puget Island and knocked the power out. The driver was taken into custody. The PUD and county road department responded to restore power and to cover the oil on the road with sand. The vehicle was towed. 12:31 p.m. A caller reported that a tree was down and blocking lanes on SR 4 in the Grays River area. 12:46 p.m. A caller reported finding a bunch of undelivered mail near Strong Park in Cathlamet. 12:53 p.m. A caller reported that a tree was down and blocking a Cathlamet road. 2:16 p.m. A caller complained about water over a Deep River roadway and asked to speak with a member of the county road crew. 5:21 p.m. A caller reported a tree partially blocking SR 4. The county road department was notified. 5:58 p.m. A caller reported a tree blocking half of SR 4 near Nassa Point. 7:13 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported a missing dog.

December 13 — 2:57 a.m. A caller reported suspicious activity at a Rosedale business. A deputy investigated but was unable to find anything. Someone later suggested it might have been someone delivering the newspaper. 2:25 p.m. A caller reported water on a Deep River road.

December 14 — 12:15 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was having trouble breathing. 4:17 p.m. A caller reported a deceased deer in the middle of SR 4 near Skamokawa.
