Local youth help children in Burundi

The Sugar & Spice 4-H group recently received thank you notes from the state program leader for 4-H regarding their project to help children in Burundi (Africa). Shown here front left Haley Depoe, middle left leader Carol Ervest, back left leader Bill Karwoski, back right Wyatt Bruntmyer and front right Lundsay Hunt. They made several jams, jellies and handcrafted items and sold them as a basket at this year's fair as part of the market sale. They also made a poster display in the youth building about Burundi and how Washington State 4-H is partnering with schools in Burundi to help them develop school gardens and other 4-H projects. This project helping youth internationally is in addition to the work they do making dry soup mixes for local food banks. They are truly exemplifying the 4-H pledge as they use their "hands for larger service, in my club, my community, my country, and my world." Photo by Carrie Backman.
