Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
If all goes according to plan, movies will be shown in Cathlamet beginning December 17 at 7 p.m. Details are being finalized for the Community Center, 101 Main St., to be the venue for regular showing of movies on their large LCD screen. The Cathlamet Public Library will sponsor this program and hold the license necessary to show copyrighted films from many production studios, both American and foreign. The program will be similar to one already in operation at Johnson Park in Rosburg.
The license limits the amount of advertising allowed, so fliers and word of mouth will be used to spread the word. The showings will be monthly to start and will hopefully grow to weekly after the first of the year. Titles will include comedies, dramas, documentaries, children’s favorites and more, based on attendance and community requests. Look for notice of the first film at the community center and in the newspaper.
Refreshments will be available before the show. Programs will be free and attendees do not need to be a library member to attend. Initial funding for the program comes from a community donation specifically for sharing and enjoying films in the community.
