Rain, flooding start out the week

Down River Dispatches

Oh my goodness, what a weekend and wild beginning to the week. We have had more than 11 inches of rain in our rain gauge so far, flooded in since Friday afternoon with a huge lake full of ducks and sea gulls.

The dogs are loving it, as the hunting for mice and other rodents is really easy. Our 8-month old, 80-pound, white, long-hair puppy is learning the ropes on how to pick the critters from the low branches of the trees and also how to come home covered in mud.

We have been prepared for this rain event, and I hope everyone else was as well. Winter is here, so I guess we had better be, prepared, that is. Did I see snow in the forecast for next week?

As I finish up this column, our rain gauge is showing about 12 inches, our field is filled with white caps, Klint’s Creek is overflowed, so our bridge is really underwater. South Satterlund Road is underwater all the way up to our mailboxes, and the wind gauge is registering nearly 50 mile an hour winds. On a high note, we still have power and we are safe and dry as are our animals. What a storm!
