Mules place sixth; headed to state volleyball tournament

The Wahkiakum Mules volleyball team finished district play on Saturday with a loss and a coin toss with Onalaska to determine fifth and sixth place. The Lady Mules advance to the State B Volleyball tournament as the sixth place seed and will face Colfax.

The tournament begins on Friday at 9:45 a.m. for the Mules at the Yakima Sundome.

The Lady Mules lost to Napavine on Saturday in three, 21-25, 17-25, and 21-25.

“We did some good things overall and led for most of the first two sets,” Coach Kayli Hurley said. “We just didn’t find a wayto close them out.”

Standouts were Macie Elliott, who had seven kills; Makenzie Anderson who had 11 kills; and Savannah Burdick with a 2.47 serve receive average, out of a possible 3.0.

“We were much more efficient from the service line as Peyton Souvenir, Kennedi LaBerge, Burdick, and Grace Peacoks were at 100 percent.”
