Remembering David Goodroe

Cathlamet and Wahkiakum County lost a good man when David Goodroe passed away Monday from complications from a fight with cancer.

A retired businessman, Goodroe made many contributions to the community. As a member of the Cathlamet Town Council, he was expert on numbers and budgets. Only town office staff might have known the numbers better.

Goodroe was also one of the leaders in the Tsuga Gallery. He developed a unique painting style, and his paintings often had a humorous twist. He took a turn as the executive director of the Lower Columbia Economic Development Council and brought grant money into the community. He supported community events and contributed time and energy to them. I remember seeing him this past summer sitting at the entrance of Erickson Park and repainting the sign arching over the park's entrance. His wry sense of humor made him lots of friends. We'll miss him greatly.

The Eagle has received word that a memorial gathering will be held at Tsuga Gallery this Sunday, 1-4 p.m.
