Brief candidate interview: Dan Wilson, Jr. for Wahkiakum School District Director District 4
Background:
Attended Peninsula College, Port Angeles; worked as a log scaler for corporations and in his own business. He has been a basketball coach at Wahkiakum High School; served on the school's FFA advisory board, is a Lower Columbia Master Scaler, and was active on the Yamhill Federal Rules scaling revision committee.
Why run for position?
"It is time for me to make a contribution and give back to the community. So the most logical place to start is the hub of the young community. Our youth are our future. Both of my children graduated from WHS and went on to college. I now have four grandsons going through the Wahkiakum school system. I want to see that not only they get the very best education along with all the other students that attend Wahkiakum schools.
What do you hope to accomplish?
I am very interested in making our students ready for their future, whether it is pursuing a college degree or attending a technical school. It is important that they have many opportunities since the work force has become so competitive. We need to strengthen technology and vocational programs to help all students.
