Fall activities continue with events to come

Down River Dispatches

It was so nice to see a little rain again. The leaves are sure showing that fall is in the air even though the temperature doesn’t seem to be reflecting that. This has always been my favorite time of the year. I love the slowing down of growth, new life taking on a whole new chapter of adventure moving in to the colder and quieter time of winter rest, only to begin again in the spring.

Westend news

The annual Oktoberfest dinner last Saturday evening at the Grays River Valley Center was a sellout. I apologize to anyone who may have been turned away. We purchased ingredients to feed 50 and that’s how many tickets we sold. It looks like next year we will presell a few more tickets so we can make a better guess as to how many we need to buy for.

Thank you so much Steve and Linda Ramsay for the main course and side dishes, and Shonda Ware for the apple strudel. Special thanks also to our young ladies that helped with the serving. And especially, a huge thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket for this delicious meal.

All Hallows Eve will be upon us very soon in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. Come one, come all with trick or treating beginning at 4:30 p.m. Get all dressed up or come as you are, bring the little ghosts and goblins for an evening of free fun for everyone. Trick or Treating for the kids inside the spooky old Rosburg School, free popcorn and punch, and movies (not too scary). Bring your own trick-or-treat container.

This event was started in appreciation for all the support our community has shown us and now it is more than that. We all enjoy putting on a costume and milling with the kids and their families inside the facility, out of the weather for a fun evening.

We still need a couple more door tenders, in costume, to man the trick-or-treating doors, and to help out in the kitchen with refreshments, etc. We have 14 doors that we need someone behind to hand out candy to the young trick or treaters, and we usually serve about 100 kids. If you would like to donate candy or funds to purchase items for the evening, please contact me at 465-2960.

The Annual Holiday Bazaar, sponsored by the Rosburg Community Club, is always one of the best and will be held on October 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Rosburg Hall.

There is always something for everyone, and it is a great way to start your holiday shopping by buying from local vendors. They always have hand made crafts including clothing, kitchen items, art work, canned goods, home made food items and baked goods, wood work, etc. Just about anything you can think of, it will be there and for sale. Check them out.

Their famous baked chicken lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. and includes their famous desserts and salads. If you are interested in renting a space to sell your items please call Barbara Rose at 465-2234. Space is limited, so call soon.

Happy Anniversary to Ron and Jennifer Salme and Carl and Anita Adair. Here’s to many more celebrations.

We enjoyed having a weekend visit with our two sons, Carl and Shane this past weekend. They were able to get a few things done around the farm before the bad weather sets in. And my sister Sharon will be here for a couple more weeks, to pick up the slack as I recuperate from surgery done last Thursday. My sister, Diane is also here on the property so we are getting pretty well spoiled with all the family here. I love having family around.
