Club will broadcast WHS Mule games

A new Broadcast Club at Wahkiakum High School will give students a chance to learn how to make videos, while collaborating with NFSH Network to air home football, basketball and volleyball games online this year.

Mule fans can subscribe to the NFSH Network to view these events on their computer, tablets, and phones.

The club, which meets every other Friday, was started by Athletic Director Rob Garrett. So far 10 students have decided to join the fun.

“Our first project was to get the program set up and teach the kids how to use it,” Garrett said. “We are still in the process of doing that as only four of our students currently know how it all works. They are learning to use Producer which is a program provided by NFHS.”

“Our main focus is broadcasting our home sporting events as well as some other extra-curricular things,” Garrett added.

According to Garrett, the students will learn how to make highlight videos, commercials and other films. Each club member will get a turn at the camera to film live games and other events, like band concerts, Veteran’s Day assemblies and graduations.

At this point, baseball and softball games may not be available for viewing this year, as they must put more technology in place.

To sign up for an annual pass that is being offered at a special price of $60 for Homecoming, go to http://www.NFHSNetwork.com, search for Wahkiakum, and click on subscribe.

According to the NFHS website, the network was a “joint venture of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), its member state associations and PlayOn! Sports.”
