This time of year seems to mean restocking our pantries, at least here at our house. We are pretty lucky to have local grocery stores that hold sales each year to give us that opportunity with case sales. I just want to remind everyone to shop local and save a few bucks with this once a year opportunity. Thanks to Okie’s in Naselle and the Cathlamet Market in Cathlamet.

Westend news:

This 8th annual Gray’s River Covered Bridge Dinner culminates a weekend of events celebrating Columbia River Country Days with seating for the dinner taking place at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, the 3rd. The meal will include salmon provided by local gillnetters, chicken marsala prepared by Mickey Bates, Carol Ervest’s pickled beets, roasted potatoes and winter squash, grown locally and Lois Wakefield’s pumpkin cake for dessert. WSU Cougar Gold cheese will be served with bread for your pleasure as well.

Entertainment will be provided by Jeffrey Reynolds playing the violin, as well as Grays River’s local cowboy poet, Joel Fitts. The evening will end with an old time auction of local arts and crafts with Mr. Fitts as auctioneer, following the dinner.

Only a limited number of tickets are available so get yours before it’s too late. They are available at the Bank of Pacific in Cathlamet and Naselle. Tickets are $35 for adults, and $25 for seniors, children and veterans. All proceeds from the dinner go to the Wahkiakum 4-H Youth Development program.

This dinner is always fantastic, entertaining, and the group it supports is a huge part of our history and future--our kids. The weekend is slated to have good weather so come on out and enjoy a unique weekend.

OktoberFest tickets are available now. The 3rd annual dinner will be held on October 10, 5-7 p.m. in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. German Sauerbraten, spaetzel, and home made apple strudel. Tickets are $12 each with only a limited number being sold. Get yours now by calling 465-2960 or 465-2731. Proceeds from this event will be used for operating costs for the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park.

Halloween is just around the corner and we would like to invite you and your family and friends to join us for our annual All Hallows Eve event at Johnson Park. This is our chance to give back to the community for supporting the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park during the rest of the year.

This is a full evening of free fun for our kids, out of the weather, and in a safe environment. We will provide indoor trick or treating for the kids, popcorn and a movie. So gather up your little ghosts and goblins in their costumes and come on in to the creepy old Rosburg School.

If you would like to donate candy or funds to purchase items for the evening, please contact me at 465-2960.

We are also looking for a few more volunteers to dress up in costume (not too scary for little ones) and sit behind doors to hand out candy to the trick or treaters. Thanks in advance for your generosity and support. Hope to see you there.

The holiday season is almost upon us and here is your chance to get a jump start on your shopping. The Annual Holiday Bazaar, sponsored by the Rosburg Community Club, will be held October 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Rosburg Hall.

Their delicious lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. If you would like to rent a space to sell your handmade items please call Barbara Rose at 465-2234.

This week’s Free Friday Night Movie is a 2015 release and is rated G for the whole family. It is a nature documentary which follows the struggles of a young monkey mother to care for and raise her new baby in the wilds of Southern Asia. This is a wonderful movie.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets each week in the Rosburg Hall for a delicious meal cooked and served by Pat Potter and her volunteers. Lunch is served at noon.

On Thursdays, a senior lunch is also provided at the same location and time. Those meals are sponsored by CAP.
