Mule volleyball team hits 5-0 mark

The Wahkiakum Mules volleyball team brought their season record up to 5-0 with two more wins this week.

Last Thursday, the team traveled to Onalaska and beat the Loggers in three games to win the match, 25-20, 25-23, and 25-20.

Grace Peacock had eight kills; Makenzie Anderson had three kills and was "awesome" on serve receive according to Coach Kayli Hurley. Setter Peyton Souvenir had 18 assists and eight digs.

"Onalaska was super scrappy and we had to work hard to find a spot on the floor that wasn't covered," Coach Hurley said. "They also took us out of our serve receive at the start with some aggressive serving but we were able to rebound and pull it together. My girls did a great job of plugging away, staying mentally tough and focusing on the next point which helped us to overcome a large deficit in the beginning of the second set."

On Tuesday, Wahkiakum faced Winlock at home and beat them easily in three, 25-4, 25-11, and 25-19. Hurley took advantage of the lead and gave everyone on the team some time on the floor.

"Standouts were Kennedi LaBerge with three kills and four aces," Coach Hurley said. "Peacock had six kills and four aces. Anderson added three kills and Souvenir had five kills and four aces. Katie Johnson had two aces and was 100 percent from the serving line. Ellie Leitz and Charlie Ashe added one kill each, and Macie Elliott had two kills and strong net play. Mckensi Fluckiger was also 100 percent from the serving line while Savannah Burdick and Tyra Elliott had a great night on serve receive."

League play begins on Thursday with a home match against Napavine.
