Sheriff's Report, September 24, 2015

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

September 14 — 11:19 a.m. An individual with a dead battery requested assistance. After a failed attempt to start the vehicle, a representative from an auto repair firm was called and on his way. 12:05 p.m. A deputy and the Puget Island Fire Department responded to the report of an illegal burn on Puget Island and found a person trying to get rid of a hornet’s nest with a fire. He was advised that there were better methods and warned that he could be subject to criminal and civil liability if he caused damage. The individual agreed to stay with the burn until the smoke was completely gone. 2:28 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an ailing Deep River resident. 5:16 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that makeup worth more than $500 had been stolen from her vehicle.

September 15 — 9:50 a.m. The Puget Island Fire Department was notified when an illegal burn was reported on Puget island. The resident was contacted and agreed to put out the fire. 7:01 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who was in a lot of pain. 11:13 p.m. A caller reported that hunters were trespassing on his neighbor’s property while his neighbor was out of town.

September 16 — 5:45 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident who was having respiratory issues. 6:53 a.m. A caller reported a major water break. A representative from the Town of Cathlamet investigated and found it was not a town problem, but would try to find someone to fix the leak. 11:33 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Beaver Creek resident who had abdominal pain. 12:08 p.m. A caller reported that there were two cows in a Puget Island roadway. 12:58 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that three of his personal checks had been forged by another individual. 1:17 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had suffered a possible stroke.

September 17 — 1:19 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that he had found the front door of his home open and his dog barking. He said that he had loaded his rifle. 9:06 a.m. A Rosedale resident said that someone had siphoned gas from her vehicle during the night. 10:16 a.m. A resident complained that vehicles were constantly speeding on a Skamokawa road. 10:55 a.m. Two vehicles were involved in an accident in a Cathlamet parking lot. The two drivers walked over to the sheriff’s office to report the accident and exchange information. 2:53 p.m. A caller reported that he had seen a male subject acting strangely near the school in Cathlamet. A deputy responded and made contact with the individual. 4:08 p.m. A caller reported that there was a man standing in a Cathlamet road and yelling.

September 18 — 10:14 a.m. A caller reported that a Puget Island resident who had previously been warned by an official was still burning illegally. 11:19 a.m. A caller reported a cow walking down a Puget Island road. 12:08 p.m. A caller reported that an electronic fence charger had been stolen in the Rosburg area. 12:10 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Cathlamet resident. 4:08 p.m. A caller was concerned that someone in a truck was stealing from mailboxes in the Little Cape Horn area. 4:25 p.m. A caller reported that six horses were loose in the Skamokawa area. 7:30 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a man with an ankle injury in the Skamokawa area. 7:58 p.m. A caller reported that a transient was bothering people and panhandling for drugs at the marina in Cathlamet.

September 19 — 11:31 a.m. A caller reported that trespassers were hunting on property in the Rosburg area. 12:43 p.m. A caller reported that cows were loose in the Elochoman Valley area. The owner was contacted and the animals were secured. 3:11 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a neighbor had trespassed on his land. 3:23 p.m. A caller reported that a road sign had fallen to the ground. 5:23 p.m. A deputy and the District 4 Fire Department responded to an illegal burn. The homeowner put out the fire. 7:32 p.m. A caller reported that there was a deceased deer in the middle of an Elochoman Valley road. 8:01 p.m. Deputies and other volunteers conducted a search for a missing hunter. Eleven hours later, the individual was reported to have found his way to SR 4 and had contacted his friends. 9:25 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunk driver on a Cathlamet road. The vehicle was stopped, but no one was taken into custody. 9:28 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident requested assistance getting into his vehicle after his dog got locked inside. The owner said he would keep trying after the deputy failed to open the vehicle due to its advanced security features.

September 20 — 5:11 a.m. A caller reported an oil slick on the Columbia River near the Puget Island bridge. The Coast Guard was notified and a representative agreed to contact the National Response Corporation about the spill. 9:44 a.m. A Rosburg resident reported that a vehicle had been stolen during the night. The vehicle was later found on a logging road with the keys in it. 1:37 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen. 7:23 p.m. A caller reported rocks on SR 4 near County Line Park. He called again to say it was a bag of cans and that he had removed the bag from the road. 7:31 p.m. A caller reported that she had been assaulted; someone had struck her in the face. An individual was taken into custody. 9:06 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who had fallen out of a wheelchair and needed a lift assist.

September 21 — 1:14 a.m. A Puget Island resident was concerned about a suspicious vehicle going up and down a driveway.
