Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:
September 7 — 1:36 p.m. A deputy intervened in an argument when an individual tried to dump her trash in the garbage bin belonging to a Rosedale business. The woman was warned that if she returned she would be arrested for trespassing. 5:56 p.m. A caller reported that a jet ski appeared to be drifting on the Columbia River just west of County Line Park. Later, the caller reported that all was well and that the owner of the jet ski was camping on a beach nearby.
September 8 — 4:56 a.m. Two calls came in about a tree down on SR 4 in the Rosedale area. 8:56 a.m. An alarm was accidentally activated at a Cathlamet residence. 1:05 p.m. A caller reported that someone had vandalized a floating base in Deep River. 6:44 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to the report of a brush fire on a Puget Island beach. 7:42 p.m. A deputy responded to a disturbance between two men at the marina in Cathlamet. One individual had yelled at another and thrown fishing equipment at him, striking him. The deputy advised the two men to get an anti-harassment order. 8:15 p.m. An ex-husband had shown up at a Cathlamet resident’s home. She wanted him to leave. He was gone by the time a deputy arrived.
September 9 — 1:42 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Deep River home. A deputy responded and found that everything was secure, including all the outbuildings. 11:20 a.m. Possible squatters were seen at a Rosedale address. 11:29 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was dizzy and nauseated. 12:49 p.m. A phone was found in the Rosedale area. 1:40 p.m. A caller reported that a dog had attacked another dog in Rosedale. 2:41 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded when someone reported seeing a person burning trash in Cathlamet. 7:14 p.m. A wallet was found outside a Rosedale business. A deputy tried to make contact with the owner. 7:33 p.m. A member of the Cathlamet Fire Department was notified of a break in a water line at a Skamokawa park. The individual said it was not his jurisdiction. The park manager responded after being contacted.
September 10 — 9:48 a.m. A caller reported hearing what sounded like two gunshots in Cathlamet. A deputy did a search but was unable to locate the source of the sound. 11:53 a.m. A Cathlamet resident requested assistance with an abandoned vehicle. 3:09 p.m. A caller reported a speeding and tailgating driver headed west on SR 4 near County Line Park. 7:17 p.m. A Rosedale business reported that they had received a counterfeit bill and gave a description of the suspect’s vehicle. 7:45 p.m. A caller reported seeing a sailboat leaning on its side in the Cathlamet Channel. A man was in a dinghy and hanging from the side of the boat. A local resident responded and the Coast Guard was alerted. The Coast Guard was already aware of the situation and the sheriff’s office was told that the boat had gotten stuck and the person on board was waiting for the tide. 8:10 p.m. A Rosburg resident reported that the neighbor’s dog was in her yard.
September 11 — 12:53 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance was called to a Puget Island home to transport a resident to the hospital. The Puget Island Fire Department was called in for a lift assist. 12:40 p.m. A Deep River resident reported that a dog was attacking another dog. 5:43 p.m. A caller reported that people were going past the 500 line gate in the Elochoman to camp before hunting season. 20:15 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to an Elochoman Valley home where an individual had choked another during a domestic disturbance. Two were transported to the hospital. 9:35 p.m. A warrant was served, and an individual in Cathlamet was taken into custody.
September 12 — 9:49 a.m. A caller reported that someone had poached an elk in the Elochoman Valley. 12:45 p.m. A caller reported that she had been challenged by a dog on a Puget Island road. 5:13 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that the landlord had turned off the power and was evicting them. A deputy advised. 8:21 p.m. Deputies and state patrol responded when Clatsop County dispatch notified the sheriff’s office that they had received a call from a woman who claimed she was in the Elochoman Valley. She was screaming that someone was going to cut her throat. A man flagged them down outside the home and wrote a statement.
September 13 — 9:01 a.m. A Grays River resident reported that her husband had passed away during the night. A deputy and the coroner responded. 11:08 a.m. A caller reported a deceased deer alongside a Skamokawa road. 3:06 p.m. A caller reported that he had hit a deer while driving the night before. He then said he dispatched it because it was suffering, learned how to quarter it by watching videos online and took it home. 3:36 p.m. The District 4 Fire Department were called out when an alarm was activated at a Cathlamet home. They were told to stand down after the owner determined that there was no fire.
September 14 — 12:12 a.m. A Grays River resident was concerned because her dog had been upset for the last half hour. She also reported that she found a large beer can outside the home the night before.
