Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
At August’s Port District 1 meeting August 13, port Commissioners Bob Kizziar and Gary Quigley conducted interviews, asking Scott Anderson, Richard Erickson and Terry Ostling a series of questions. At the end of the meeting, the commissioners, Port Manager Jackie Lea and port counsel Tim Hanigan met for a closed executive session to make a decision.
Afterwards they announced that Anderson was selected to fill the vacant position on the board, created by Larry Bond’s recent resignation.
David Blalock and Pat Conrad of Smoky Waters once again approached the port regarding the placement of a tower on port property in order to extend their internet service to outlying areas in exchange for internet service for the port and its customers. No plan had been drawn up by Smoky Waters and the commissioners tabled the matter.
Commissioners gave approval for the port manager to move forward in seeking bids for a new D dock and fingers.
The port is considering the purchase of a dredge.
“Buying a dredge seems like it would save the district a lot of money,” Kizziar said. “As Gary said, we’d have the possibility of renting it out in the future.”
“Skamokawa is in need of dredge,” Quigley said, “practically everyplace around here is in need of a dredge. We could actually keep it pretty busy.”
Kizziar took a moment to praise the employees at the port.
“I want to congratulate the staff as always on a job well done,” Kizziar said. “This time it was the steamboats. The Portland Yacht club was here the week before. Everyone seems to be happy and has a good time.”
Quigley agreed.
The next Port 1 meeting is scheduled for September 10 at 5 p.m.
