Unique home and garden tour set for August 8

The annual Cathlamet Woman’s Club Tour of Homes and Gardens is set for August 8 from 1-5 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available from club members and Bank of Pacific, Cathlamet Pharmacy and Tsuga Gallery in downtown Cathlamet and also at any home on the day of the tour.

The tour will feature Wahkiakum Community Gardens at Erickson City Park. There are 25 individual plots for local gardeners. Some Master Gardeners will be present to answer questions and show people around.

The home of Doyle and Kathleen Petersen at 271 N. Welcome Slough on Puget Island features 3400 sq. ft. with well planted landscaping including trees, shrubs and plants. Some features to notice about this home include Brazilian slate at the entrance with an embedded compass rose, 9-ft. ceilings, a deck that opens from the kitchen, ideal for entertaining and an intimate view of the Columbia River.

The Rodney and Patty Ingersoll and Priscilla Grey home at 485 W. Birnie Slough on Puget Island features a two story home with the main living area on the top floor, allowing panoramic views of the Columbia River. This home features a coffee bar on the first floor and beautiful floors and other woodwork created by Rodney. He used his skills as a mason for the tile work.

Historic Skamokawa Landing at 957 Steamboat Slough Road in Skamokawa has been restored. Built in 1911 on pilings over the Columbia River, it was an active landing site for sternwheelers navigating between Astoria and Portland and once featured a store, a theater and a dance hall. Now it features a community room and professional offices, and is home to Columbia River Kayaking. It also features three beautiful suites available to rent daily or for longer stays. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided in the community room.

Dennis and Louise Courtright, at 7 Misty River Lane in the Elochoman Valley, are showing their gardens only. They feature a small pond garden with mini-waterwheel, and paths viewing different vegetable and rose gardens, along with a bench garden. View the large gazebo and secret garden on a hidden path, all from the creative work of Louise and Dennis.
