Cathlamet brewers see year of change

Cathlamet's River Mile 38 Brewing Company has announced changes on the board of directors.

Dr. Doug Martin, DMD, who has been a cornerstone and huge contributor to the brewery, is leaving to have more time for family and for travel, Managing Partner Richard Erickson reported recently.

“We are sad to see Doug leave, but I know his family will love having him around more,” Erickson said.

"I know our patrons are going to miss Doug and his wife, Jill, in the tap room. We will always see a part of Doug at the brewery as he built our bar and put the tin on the walls. Behind the scenes, he learned to brew beer and helped with cellaring tasks."

Kelso resident and board member Jeff Seawell has also sold his interest in the brewery.

"Although not as well known as Doug, Jeff was our mechanical engineer," Erickson said. "He received an offer from a startup company to consult in that industry. Jeff built many labor saving devices for our brew process. He and his wife enjoyed working in the Tap Room and meeting customers."

“We will miss Jeff, and I hope he still comes to visit from time to time," said Steve Sharp, treasurer and brewer.

Erickson said that the brewery, which has been open for nearly 18 months, has expanded its market to over 100 restaurants and bars in southwest Washington.

"We are brewing more beer per month than we ever thought possible," he said. "River Mile 38 has experienced an incredible start to a business that has been embraced by our local community."

The brewery had to change its name earlier this year. Anchor Steam Brewing in San Francisco threatened a lawsuit because they felt the local brewery's old name and beer, Drop Anchor, would be confused with theirs.
