Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:
July 6 — 11:05 a.m. A caller reported that a panhandler was causing problems in Cathlamet. 4:29 p.m. Two pigs were seen wandering around the golf course. 4:32 p.m. A Cathlamet resident was concerned about a stranger who had been seen talking to her daughter. The man had not made an attempt to lure the child, but the caller discovered that the man had, while possibly intoxicated, recently knocked on neighbors’ doors asking for money. She was advised to call 911 if he returned so deputies could speak with him. 6:01 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported a theft on his property. 6:07 p.m. A Rosedale resident found two pigs in his yard. 10:07 p.m. A caller reported that someone was setting off fireworks near the fuel tanks at the marina in Cathlamet.
July 7 — 4:42 a.m. A Skamokawa resident reported a power outage at his home and at the fairgrounds. The PUD was notified. 5:05 a.m. The ferry was having mechanical problems. 10:29 a.m. A caller complained that an angry log truck driver had driven them off the road on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area. 4:39 p.m. A Grays River resident reported that a speeding vehicle on SR 4 had almost hit a family member who was trying to turn into their driveway. The resident reported that this was an ongoing problem in the area and requested a bigger police presence. 4:56 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a suspicious vehicle seemed to be circling the area. 7:06 p.m. A Deep River resident complained about a noisy dump truck backing on to his property. He made several claims: the truck was illegal, uninsured, and over weight with a load greater than six inches. He said that the driver was trespassing on his neighbor’s property though he had not spoken with the neighbor about the matter, that the driver was deliberately turning around on a county right of way to harass him and that the driver did not have a CDL or a necessary flagging crew to back on to his own property. The caller was told that the matter was a civil issue and that without a traffic violation, dispatch could not run a check on the driver. The caller said he would take the matter into his own hands and sue the owner of the property. He said that the sheriff’s office never enforces things in Deep River and that it was a waste of time to call. Dispatch said he was welcome to call anytime. 9:47 p.m. An Alger Creek resident complained of an electrical smell and a hot meter box. The PUD was notified and sent a crew.
July 8 — 9:24 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Puget Island resident. A deputy made contact with the resident who was okay. 10:48 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who had injured his knee. 10:48 a.m. A Rosburg resident reported a case of identity theft. 10:54 a.m. A Rosedale resident complained about a neighbor’s dog. 5:09 p.m. The District 4 Fire Department responded to the report of a vehicle fire in the Elochoman Valley. 7:20 p.m. A caller reported a transient sleeping under the steps of a Cathlamet business. Deputies were unable to locate the man. 9:11 p.m. A Deep River resident reported receiving verbal threats and that no trespassing signs had been taken down. The caller had video, and a deputy planned to visit him the following day. 10:41 p.m. A Deep River resident called while he confronted three men who had exited a small aluminum boat and headed to a neighbor’s home with beer. He was concerned because his neighbor was not home. One man hid in the bushes.
July 9 — 7:47 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Puget Island resident. 9:01 a.m. A car went into a ditch on SR 4 in the Skamokawa area. State patrol was notified. 11:41 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported an assault. 2:16 p.m. A Grays River resident reported that she had received a fraudulent phone call. 3:12 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that a juvenile was out of control. The juvenile was taken into custody. 4:01 p.m. A caller reported that two vehicles were passing traffic in dangerous areas on SR 4 near Skamokawa. 5:14 p.m. A caller reported being bitten by a pitbull in Cathlamet. 10:00 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported being stalked and ongoing harassment by phone.
July 10 — 4:22 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident with complications due to diabetes. 4:31 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported an elderly Rosedale resident to the hospital. 5:30 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported ongoing harassment by phone. 5:36 a.m. An alarm was activated for the western Wahkiakum water system and another alarm was activated for a repeater on KM. The PUD was notified. 7:08 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident with chest pain. 11:31 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported a fraudulent phone call. 12:20 p.m. A caller reported a deceased deer on the side of SR 4 near Cape Horn. 1:56 p.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle heading east on SR 4 in Skamokawa. 6:08 p.m. A caller reported that a juvenile became aggressive after she had asked him and another juvenile to leave the fairgrounds in Skamokawa. At 6:43 p.m., the caller asked for a deputy to respond at the request of the mother of one of the juveniles. The mother later called and asked to speak to a deputy. 7:47 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident with complications due to diabetes. 8:28 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Beaver Creek resident who may have suffered a stroke.
July 11 — 3:30 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported ongoing harassment by phone. 7:35 a.m. A domestic disturbance was reported at a Puget Island home. 8:09 a.m. A Skamokawa resident reported receiving an obscene phone call. 9:04 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that the father of her children was coming to get them, as she had been advised to do by her attorney. 9:54 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident with chest pain. 2:22 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a neighbor was harassing him. 5:26 p.m. A caller reported that an individual with a warrant was at an Elochoman Valley address. 7:10 p.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle on SR 4 just east of Rosedale.
July 12 — 1:10 a.m. A caller reported seeing two males spraying down a vehicle with what he believed to be a gas nozzle at a Rosedale business. State patrol investigated and said it appeared to be a pressure washer. 2:07 a.m. The Grays River Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire in Rosburg. The PUD was notified. 3:00 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported another harassing phone call. 9:23 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a canoe had floated away during the night. 10:46 a.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an individual who had intentionally attempted an overdose. A representative from mental health was en route. 1:16 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that someone had stolen two cows and some of their alpacas. 1:43 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported an injured elk and asked to have it put down. A state patrol officer said he would notify the game agent on duty. 5:17 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident whose shop had been broken into recently reported a suspicious vehicle leaving the area. 5:45 p.m. A Cathlamet resident asked for assistance in getting her things out of a house.
July 13 — 9:32 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosedale resident. A deputy made contact.
