Sheriff's Report, July 9, 2015

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

June 29 — 10:05 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported an ailing clinic patient to the hospital. 1:53 p.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to the report of a vehicle in the ditch along SR 4 in the Skamokawa area. 2:32 p.m. An employee at a Cathlamet business complained about a large truck that had been parked in front of the building for several hours. 4:33 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Grays River resident. A deputy made contact with the resident’s husband who reported that his wife was at a meeting and that she would make contact with the concerned party when she returned. 6:49 p.m. A caller reported a boat had been anchored a long time in Grays Bay. 6:50 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Cathlamet bank. An employee agreed to check it out but speculated that it had been set off accidentally by someone who was cleaning.

June 30 — 2:11 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that a juvenile in the home had become violent. An advocate from the mental health department was en route. 2:50 p.m. A Puget Island resident was concerned after a man claiming to be an appraiser was seen taking pictures of her home. The man raced off in his vehicle after being confronted by the homeowner. 7:24 p.m. An employee at a Cathlamet bank asked a deputy to look around after finding a door unlocked. 8:35 p.m. An individual called again, upset about a boat that he believed to be anchored in Grays Bay. He was given the number for the Coast Guard. 8:57 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver on SR 4 in Deep River. The vehicle was stopped at 9:01 p.m. At 9:11 p.m. the Cathlamet ambulance was dispatched to aid the elderly man who was having complications due to diabetes. 11:16 p.m. A caller requested someone to dispatch a deer that was suffering after being struck by a vehicle in the Elochoman Valley.

July 1 — 1:44 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported receiving several calls from a private number. When she answered the phone, there was only silence. She was advised to turn off that phone for the night and was told that a deputy would contact her later in the day. The deputy contacted the phone company. At 10:18 a.m., the resident reported that she was continuing to receive phone calls and that they had escalated to inappropriate comments. 9:43 a.m. A caller reported that a boat had been anchored in Grays Bay for three days. 11:31 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who had hurt her back after a fall. 2:51 p.m. A deputy and the Skamokawa Fire Department responded to the report that someone in Skamokawa had a burn pile going during the burn ban. 3:08 p.m. A dog was found at a Rosedale business. 4:35 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident with a heart problem. 5:14 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident who had suffered an electrical shock. 8:16 p.m. An individual reported that he had arrived in town by bus and was expecting to be given access to an apartment by the mental health department. Dispatch contacted an advocate from the mental health department who said that this individual had been told multiple times that there was nothing they could do for him, that he did not qualify financially and that he had previously damaged the room he had been given. The individual’s family was contacted and they said they would not provide assistance and that he was a threat to society and should be incarcerated. A deputy determined that the individual was not a threat to himself or others, that he did not require medical attention and that he had not committed any crimes and was thus free to leave. 8:57 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident who had fallen.

July 2 — 11:49 a.m. A caller reported that a man in a Cathlamet park looked like he might pass out. 12:53 p.m. A caller reported that a deer had struck a vehicle on SR 4 just west of County Line Park. The caller said that there was minimal damage to his vehicle but the deer remained in the roadway. 3:18 p.m. A Skamokawa resident complained that his neighbor’s cows were on his property and causing damage. 3:36 p.m. An alarm was activated at a residence west of County Line Park. A deputy and the state patrol responded. 4:09 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported a phone scam. 9:57 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to the report of a possible electrical fire. 10:34 p.m. The District 4 Fire Department responded to the report of a possible illegal burn at a beach near Skamokawa.

July 3 — 2:03 a.m. A deputy and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to the report of a possible death in Rosedale. The coroner was on scene at 2:22 a.m. 8:09 a.m. An individual with a warrant was taken into custody. 1:50 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Cathlamet home. The homeowner said that it was set off accidentally. 2:59 p.m. A caller reported finding a bicycle in front of her Cathlamet residence. 4:05 p.m. A caller reported that a car with out of state plates had been parked in an Elochoman Valley parking lot for about three weeks. 6:24 p.m. A caller was concerned that a fisherman in a small boat in the Columbia River was not wearing a lifejacket. 8:19 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported a recent break up and was concerned about her ex gaining access to the house to pick up his property. She was advised to get an order for a civil standby. 8:20 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an elderly Rosedale resident who had fallen. 8:37 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported ongoing harassment by phone. 9:52 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had cut herself.

July 4 — 9:51 a.m. A caller reported a boulder on SR 4 near Nassa Point. 11:06 a.m. A caller was concerned that a dog running loose in Rosedale near SR 4 might get hit. 4:15 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosedale home. 10:34 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Cathlamet business. The owner was contacted and everything was fine. 10:39 p.m. A caller reported that an individual was harassing people at the marina. A deputy was able to make contact with the individual who was headed east on SR 4 on foot. The individual refused transport to Cowlitz County.

July 5 — 10:41 a.m. A Puget Island resident complained that a neighbor had fired shots and scared her horses. A deputy spoke with the neighbor who claimed he was attempting to kill a mole. 2:41 p.m. Deputies, the District 4 Fire Department and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a two vehicle accident on SR 4 in the Cathlamet area. An individual was taken into custody. 6:17 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and the Cathlamet Fire Department aided a Cathlamet resident who had a seizure. LifeFlight was activated. 6:38 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that someone had punched his truck and a mirror.

July 6 — 2:00 a.m. The sheriff’s department responded to the report of a burglary and shots fired in the Elochoman Valley. A search dog was requested from Cowlitz County. Two were taken into custody at 8:56 a.m. 5:45 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a call to aid an Elochoman Valley resident with complications due to diabetes. The individual, also a heroin addict according to a family member, refused aid. 8:03 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had become unconscious. 10:06 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident.
