Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Cooking Matters courses are for moms, dads, grandparents, and caregivers who want to make healthy meals on a budget. They will learn to shop smarter, use nutrition information to make healthier choices, and cook delicious, affordable meals. The series is designed for beginning to advanced cooks and participants may join one class or all of them.
Summer is sometimes tough on the family food budget. Children are home for breakfast and lunch during the week and families are extra busy in the summer.
Research shows people who frequently cook meals at home eat healthier and consume fewer calories than those who cook less.
Each two hour Cooking Matters session covers meal preparation, grocery shopping, food budgeting and nutrition, safe food preparation and tasting of sample recipes. Emphasis will be on stocking and using a pantry, and time saving cooking equipment.
Classes run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon beginning July 14 and ending July 30. They will be held in the Cathlamet Community Center.
