Dry weather brings need for fire safety

Down River Dispatches

News from Naselle:

With all the nice warm and dry weather we have been having, comes the risks as well. If you take your kids swimming, please remember to put life jackets on them, and when you are in an area where it is applicable be wary of drop offs, rip tides, etc. Better to be safe than sorry.

Many of us know about the devastation fire can cause, so please follow the rules when a burn ban is on. Everything is tinder dry and it doesn’t take much to start a fire, so please be careful. The burn ban in Wahkiakum County will start on July 1st, and has already started in Pacific County.

Don’t forget about your pets either. Never leave an animal in your car as the temperatures can climb rapidly and cause hardship or death in a short period of time. Make sure your pet has adequate fresh water and shelter during this time as well.

These suggestions aren’t rocket science, only common sense. Protect yourself and your loved ones.

This week’s Free Friday Night Movie is an oldie, classic double feature. These are always fun to watch and bring back lots of memories of times gone by. The show starts at 7 p.m. and concessions are also available.

Westend news:

Are you interested in the topic of health, fitness and the proper techniques of equipment use and maintenance with regard to the exercise equipment in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park? Bring a friend and join in this preliminary exercise and fitness meeting, which will be held in the exercise room on Saturday, June 27 at 3 p.m.

It’s still early yet, but don’t forget the Community Picnic and Potluck in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park next month. The center will provide barbecued hot dogs and hamburgers, and there will be outdoor games as well. More info coming next week.

Echo Meadow, also known as the home of the awesome yearly Pig Roast/Potluck and Camp Out, will once again be filled with campers and good food and fun for the whole weekend of July 31 through August 2. Finally, after a three-year pig roast hiatus, Poul and Zinaida Toftemark will celebrate the homecoming of their adopted son, Elmer, celebrate their wedding anniversay, and congratulate their granddaughter Mia on her graduation. With so much to be thankful for and their generous ability to share their blessings with family, friends and neighbors, I hope everyone who attends this wonderful, fun and family friendly event will celebrate with them the best event ever, and thank them for sharing their happiness.
