Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Brows furrowed in concentration, as eyes studied 35 colorful miniature blocks and chips. Then young fingers started to assemble them into intricate shapes; changing one piece for another that would better fit the intended designs.
From May 19-29, Cathlamet Public Library was host to the Cool Creations Lego Challenge that the Washington State Library has been sharing with libraries across the state.
Children were able to practice May 19 through 23, as attendees explored the prepackaged boxes of Legos and enjoyed one-on-one time with the Lego idea book from the kit.
From May 26-29 children were challenged to exercise their creative and engineering talents to design what they wanted to from a box of 35 Legos. A total of 23 children (encouraged by 16 parents) produced ice cream machines, space sharks, hardware store items, tow trucks, spacecraft, and other fabrications.
Everyone who finished constructing a design of their choice was honored for successfully mastering the Cool Creations Lego Challenge. Photos of the completed projects and their designers are posted in the library, and on the library website at http://www.cathlamet.lib.wa.us .
Librarian Carol Blix said participants so enjoyed the Legos that the library will accept Lego donations for future project events.
