Megan Thompson, WSH salutatorian

Megan Thompson is the Salutatorian for Wahkiakum High School's Class of 2015. She is the daughter of Hope and Shane Skinner.

Narwhals are her thing.

"I love them," Thompson said. "They have an interesting history. People thought they were unicorns, which is fascinating to me."

This fascination will lead her from LCC to Western Washington University where she plans to study marine biology, and eventually specialize in narwhals.

"I think more studies need to be done on them," she said, "so I hope to work with them."

"Ever since I was younger," she said, I was fascinated by the outside world. I found comfort there.

That's probably why Mr. Rooklidge is her favorite teacher.

"He's always passionate about the environment," Thompson said. "Because I want to become a marine biologist, it's nice to see someone also passionate in that field."

Thompson also enjoyed Mr. Cox's Contemporary World Problems class for the discussion and for giving her an awareness of the world.

She played the clarinet in the band and participated in solo ensemble competitions. She played on the softball team all four years, acted as secretary for the Wahkiakum Community Network, and was President of the Teen Advocacy Group. She was also in a leadership group that helped acclimate freshmen to high school.

Her senior project was on the Reading is Fundamental program, which she helped coordinate. If pressed for favorite book, she'll give you three, The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

"I'm kind of a geek," she grinned.

It doesn't take long to realize she's also smart and fun.
