Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Last Friday was opening day for the Puget Island Farmer's Market and marked their 10 year anniversary. People had been visiting at a pretty steady rate that afternoon, according to Carol Carver, who owns Island's End Farm along with her husband, George Exum.
The Vintage Gypsies, made up of David McKenzie, Beth Sheets and Pete Davis, mostly stayed dry under the tent as they played.
Patrick McKay-Beach was busy getting rid of last year's inventory of meats and delighted to share that he would be adding pork soon. Desiree East Craven celebrated some of the beets she had grown at Backwater Farm.
The creative forces of Linda Barth, Pam Hanson, and Sandi Rieder have been busy sewing and quilting and knitting and making planters from cloth and concrete to sell at the market. Annie Heineck sold Skamokawa Farmstead Creamery cheese and talked with a visiting Wwoofer (Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms participant), Sierra Baumhoefener.
The Puget Island Farmer's Market is open every Friday through October 16 from 3-6 p.m. at 59 W. Birnie Slough Road.
