Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Northwest Farmers Union (NWFU) members spent three days with their peers from around the country, advocating for Country-of-Origin Labeling through congressional meetings in Washington D.C. this past week. While there were three members from NWFU there were a total of 60 Farmers Union members in addition to other COOL supporting organizations and their memberships.
Many groups have been working with the World Trade Organization as well as members of Congress to create an acceptable version of COOL that would be feasible and beneficial for producers and consumers alike. Farmers Union members had an easy and distinct message while on “the hill.” The arbitration process is thought to take 60 days once all the necessary filings are in after which a conclusion will be made as to the validity of the claims presented in regards to COOL.
The Northwest Farmers Union and its members will monitor the situation closely and work to be involved in any meetings on the topic in the future. The Northwest Farmers Union is a farmer advocacy group that provides a platform for individuals to voice their opinions as well as gain education and support for their agriculture endeavors.
