Board to survey Mandarin program opinion
The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on May 19, 2015.
The board acknowledged the retirement of long-time employee and secretary of Naselle Youth Camp School, Norilyn Pakenen, effective Sept. 30, 2015, and the resignation of Head Girls’ Basketball coach, Robin Andrea.
The board also voted to accept a funding commitment letter of $33,000 from the South Pacific County Community Foundation with such funds earmarked for the Mandarin Immersion Program. The vote was 4-1 with board member Bud Strange abstaining.
In other matters of business, the board approved the following staff contracts for the 2015-16 school year: certificated staff, non-represented/administrators, Youth Camp summer school teachers, and the contract of Rhiana Jacot, superintendent’s secretary. A superintendent’s job description and evaluation tool were also adopted, along with the school calendar for 2015-16.
In the discussion segment, the district indicated it plans to schedule a workshop to discuss an advisory vote (essentially an opinion survey) to seek input on the Mandarin Immersion program for the Naselle-Grays River Valley Elementary. Other items of discussion included a conversation around holding some future board meetings in Wahkiakum County.
The board met in executive session to conduct the third and final evaluation of the superintendent for the year.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for June 16th at 6:30 p.m.
