Westend news:

The gymnasium in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park is made available to the community, through sponsorships to the center, rental to the schools for practices and for several groups that do a great job with the kids in our community. We try our best to accommodate everyone, and expect that everyone will try and maintain the facility for the next users as well as themselves. The gym is used for basketball, aerobics, yoga, etc., but recently we have found baseballs inside. Baseball is an outside game, and should not be practiced in the gym. We have new glass backboards that could be damaged by an errant ball and the wooden floor can be damaged by hard balls. We have a nice baseball field outside to play on, and in case of rain, Naselle School has a batting cage. So please, only use the equipment meant to be used inside the gymnasium. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

The movie night film, rated PG, throws a modern twist on several of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales and intertwines the plots of a few choice stories while exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. This fun musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel - all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.

On May 16 the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park will host their annual Plant Sale and Soup Luncheon. Please join us for a delicious lunch featuring home made soups. We will have house plants, outside plants and shrubs, garden starts, etc. for sale. If you would like to donate plants to be sold at the event, please call Penny Gregory at 465-2775. If you would like to have someone pick up donated plants, she is willing to do that as well.

The 31st Great White Tail Run will take place on May 16, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the race to begin at 10 a.m. The course will include a 10K, 5K and 2 mile race through the Julia Butler Hansen National Refuge in Skamokawa.

Pre-run registration is $10 without a t-shirt, $20 with a t-shirt. On the day of the run: $12 without shirt and $25 with shirt. Add $1 if you are planning to bring your dog and compete for an award in that division. Discounts are available for groups and families.

For further information call 360 465-2275 or 360 795-3278. You can also pick up one of the green fliers that are posted on most public bulletin boards throughout the county.

This event is sponsored by Wahkiakum 4-H and proceeds will be used to benefit the county programs.

On May 17 the annual Spring Tea and Luncheon will be held at the Rosburg Hall, sponsored by the Friendship Circle ladies of the Grays River United Methodist Church. This is always a fun event, with entertainment, delicious food, raffles and fun.

Coming up on May 23 is another American Legion Breakfast, sponsored by the Deep River Post #111. For more information please call 465-2234.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets each week in the Rosburg Hall for a home cooked meal prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew.

On Thursdays, a senior meal is also available and is sponsored by CAP. Lunch is served at noon for both.
