James Mast

James M. Mast, 72 of Cathlamet, died at Hospice Care Center in Longview on April 17, 2015.

Jim was born in Longview on August 5, 1942 to James and Elva (Neuman) Mast. He was a lifelong Cathlamet resident and graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1960. He joined the Army where he spent two years. He was stationed in Germany. He worked as a route driver for Troy Laundry for 25 years before his job as Harbormaster at the Elochoman Marina where he worked for 20 years, retiring in 2008. He also drove a school bus for Wahkiakum Schools for 30 years.

Jim was an active community member. He spent time on the Wahkiakum School Board, Cathlamet City Council and was a retired Cathlamet Volunteer Fireman. Jim loved people, liked to tease and enjoyed reading. He and Carol were together for 26 years and they enjoyed travel, visiting places all over the country.

In addition to his wife Carol, Jim is survived by a daughter Carrie Badger (Ross), three sons, Mike Mast (Trish), Chris Mast (Erin) and Luis Acuna (Sandra), a stepdaughter, Joannie Bjorge (Everett) and two stepsons, Garrett and Clay Olsen, 13 grandchildren and the mother of his children, Sharon Mast. Jim also leaves behind many friends. He was preceded in death by two half sisters. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held on Saturday May 2, 2015 at The Norse Hall on Puget Island at 2 p.m.
