Westend news:

For the second year in a row, the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park has been blessed to be chosen as a service project destination for a group of youngsters from the New Heights Church in Vancouver. Eleven kids and their youth pastor, J P Mumley, spent the night at the Valley Bible Church, ate breakfast and headed to Johnson Park to do some cleanup on the grounds. They spent a few hours pulling weeds and cleaning up the parking area before heading to Vista Park for lunch on the beach. It’s wonderful to see the enthusiasm and hard work by so many youngsters, and I would like to thank them all for the help. Thank you also Pastor Mumley, the New Heights Church and the Valley Bible Church. We hope to see all of you again.

It appears that the Red Cross Blood Drive that has been held at the Valley Bible Church periodically over the past year or so has become quite the social event. According to the Red Cross, they say, “Rosburg Represents.” Susan Burkhalter tells me that they set a goal of 28 units and they ended up with 33. Looks like they need to set a higher mark for the next one, which will be on June 17 at the same location. As added incentive, April Zimmerman prepares delicious “sliders” for the donors and volunteers, and Mochas & More provides free items for their drawings.

Mike Swanson was feeling especially generous this time and donated two units. Many thanks to everyone who participated in this event--Susan Burkhalter for her role in organizing it, April Zimmerman for the snacks, Laura Ray for the prizes, the Valley Bible Church for their location, and especially the donors for providing this life saving fluid.

Won’t you join your friends and neighbors for an evening of Bingo in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park? This event is sponsored by the West End Food Pantry on Saturday, 6-9 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Entry for the event is $1 plus a can of food. There will also be raffles and baked goods for sale throughout the evening, For more information please call Shonda Ware at 465-2722.

On May 16 the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park will host their annual Plant Sale and Soup Luncheon. If you would like to donate plants to be sold at the event, please call Penny Gregory at 465-2775. If you need plants picked up, she is willing to do that as well.

On May 17 the annual Spring Tea and Luncheon will be held at the Rosburg Hall, sponsored by the Friendship Circle ladies of the Grays River United Methodist Church. This is always a fun event, with entertainment, delicious food, raffles and fun.

The Free Friday Night movie this week is a double feature. The first one is featuring a teenage sleuth that many of us grew up reading about. The second movie is an old classic. Concessions are available, and the show starts at 7 p.m.

The Rosburg Senior Lunch Bunch meets in the Rosburg Hall each week for a hot, home cooked meal prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteers.

On Thursdays, a senior meal is also served in the Rosburg Hall and is sponsored by CAP. Lunch is served at noon for both venues.
