Commissioners of Port District No. 2 discussed marketing of district parks when they met Tuesday.
Robert Kulp, who has designed an updated website for the district, discussed marketing strategies involving the internet and social media. He said the commission could form a program based on their budget.
Port Attorney Tim Hanigan suggested the commission put the matter on their May agenda and prepare a request for proposals for website management services.
Shannon Gildea, executive director of the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce, also spoke about internet marketing. She said that after having a conversation with port Commissioner Kayrene Gilbertsen, she had researched the port's internet presence and found a variety of reviews of the port's parks. She suggested that if the port expands its internet activity, these reviews should be addressed.
She also reported the Chamber is updating its lodging brochures and would include updated port information.
Commissioners Gilbertsen, Lori Scott and Brian O'Connor granted a request from Undersheriff Steve Marshall to allow the Wahkiakum Search and Rescue team to house a response trailer in the old bus barn at Skamokawa Vista Park. Gilbertsen's motion to authorize the request was for a six-month trial period.
Gilbertsen commented that her term in office expires this year; she announced that she wouldn't run for re-election.
