N/GRV School Baord Meeting Notes

The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on April 21, 2015.

The board acknowledged the retirement of district office secretary, Marilyn Strange, effective June 30, 2015, and long-time bus driver and former teacher, Cliff Weimer.

Also acknowledged were the resignations of Lonnie Eaton, middle school football coach and Crystal Lanz, 3rd grade teacher. Mrs. Lanz will become the Principal of Trout Lake K-12 School in Trout Lake, Washington next year.

Marie Green was hired for a one-year assistant volleyball position, and Rachel Suomela was hired as assistant cook.

Rhiana Jacot, para-educator at the District for many years, was hired as the new district office secretary.

A grant from the College Board was acknowledged in receipt of two Mandarin teachers for the 2015-16 school year. Voting yes in acknowledging the grant were Robert Torppa, Chuck Hendrickson and Josh Holt. Steve Gacke voted no and Bud Strange abstained.

In other business, the board approved an out of area teaching assignment by Youth Camp teacher Rita Souther. Overnight trips were approved for the senior class sneak and 8th graders to attend a leadership camp at Cispus Learning Center with Wahkiakum students. Superintendent Nelson presented the knowledge bowl team with special plaques in recognition for their placing at State the past two years.

A letter from the Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration was discussed to indicate a funding level of 70 FTE at the Youth Camp for the 2015-16 school year, a drop of six residents from 2014-15.

A special announcement was made to acknowledge a Washington State Achievement Award for “high progress” received by the Naselle- Grays River Valley Elementary.

The board announced a special meeting at 10 a.m. on May 4 to discuss the superintendent’s job description and evaluation form.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for May 19 at 6:30 p.m.
