Town of Cathlamet fire hydrant flushing scheduled

The Cathlamet Fire Department would like to inform the residents of the Town of Cathlamet that fire hydrant flushing will be conducted between April 9 and April 24.

During this activity residents may experience discoloration in their drinking water. This is due to iron deposits in the water main becoming dislodged during the flushing of the hydrants. This discoloration does not pose a health risk, however residents are encouraged to run water through the lowest fixture in the home until the discolored water becomes clear.

Benefits of a water main hydrant flushing program include:

• Confirmation of hydrant and valve operability;

• Improved water quality through removing accumulated sediment; and

• Verification of proper pressure levels for fire protection.

For further information regarding fire hydrant flushing contact the Town of Cathlamet at 795-8032 or Assistant Fire Chief Beau Renfro at 751-8999.
