Westend news:
What an incredible turnout for the In-door Super sale at Johnson Park last Saturday. It seemed to be a great day for everyone.
On behalf of the Johnson Park Advisory Board, I would like to thank each and every one of the vendors, for their adherence to the rules, their helpfulness with each other and their great showing of so many items for sale. Thank you as well to all the shoppers who showed up and made purchases, as well as treating themselves to lunch in the cafeteria in support of the Center. We realize that there were some glitches but hope to learn from our mistakes and will do better next time. We appreciate everyone’s input and advice on how to make changes.
A special thank you to the ladies of the Grays River United Methodist Church for the delicious offerings at their bake sale. Another special thank you to Steve and Linda Ramsay, for their hard work in the kitchen, with the help of Rebecca Ware (our little dependable worker) and PJ Katims, also indispensable at most of our functions.
And finally, the person who did most of the leg work, preparation, setting up and tearing down, and I’m sure is still exhausted from the event, Cheryl Dutcher. She did an outstanding job as usual, in coordinating the super sale, and we couldn’t have done it without her and her volunteers. Thank you, thank you, thank you. We appreciate you so much.
Oh, by the way, if you happen to see Cheryl this coming weekend, wish her a happy birthday, and also happy anniversary to she and Dale. My best to both of you, and my personal thanks.
I managed to get down to the chicken dinner at the Rosburg Hall on Sunday but just barely in time to get dinners to go. What a great crowd of hungry folks who seemed to really be enjoying the food and the company. Isn’t it wonderful to live in such a close knit community, and be able to share our way of life with others? Thank you once again to the Rosburg Community Club for putting on an outstanding dinner.
Speaking of the Rosburg Community Club, they will host another fundraiser on April 11, 2-4 p.m., at the Rosburg Hall. The event is the Ralph McGough Scholarship Dessert Social and the proceeds will benefit the scholarship program that is given to a local student each year.
This scholarship program is named for Ralph McGough, who was principal and teacher at the Grays River Valley Grade School from 1948 to 1971, and you can view a picture of him at the Rosburg Hall.
Please join us for an afternoon of delicious desserts and good company, with the yummy treats being provided by the Rosburg Community Club. Donations will be accepted instead of a specific charge. Let’s show this amazing group how much we appreciate them and their efforts in our community.
The Free Friday Night Movie this week has been requested by several families and is a great family movie released recently. Synopsis: In this modern remake of the classic Broadway show the main character is portrayed as a cute little girl hopelessly lost within the foster care system of New York City. Forced to stay with her mean foster mom, Miss Hannigan, the heroine manages to tough-it-out in Harlem until one day she accidentally and literally runs into the wealthy billionaire and New York City Mayoral candidate, Will Stacks. After he saves her from almost being hit by a car (while simultaneously being video taped by an unknown passerby) Stacks and his political team decide to use the life-saving incident to boost his polls for the upcoming election. Taking her into his home, Stacks begins to fall "head-over-heels" for the adorable little girl. Meanwhile her only hope is for her parents to someday come back and rescue her from the foster care program.
The show starts at 7 p.m. and concessions are available with popcorn, candy and pop.
