Westend news:

Last weekend’s Spaghetti Feed at the Grays River Valley Center was a huge success, and it appeared that everyone from the cooks, the helpers, the band and the folks who ate dinner had a great time. Thank you so much for all your hard work, Nick Nickolas and Nick II, our chefs from Tacoma, our helpers in the kitchen, Penny Gregory, Steve Ramsay and Deanne Bulick. Huge thanks also to our dishwasher, Randy Collver and his right hand, Ramona Collver, servers Rebecca Ware, PJ Katims and Bonnie Kohn. Kudos to Georgene Scott for taking tickets and Ann Bulick for bartending. Without all of you, we couldn’t have done this event, and you are certainly appreciated.

Jerry and Becky Ledtke, Pat Conrad and Cliff Garrison, a.k.a. Wahkiakum Vibes, were incredible and played throughout the evening to the delight of the attendees. Your music is great, and the different personalities of each member of the group bring so much fun to the audience. Even the little kids thought your music was incredibly fun. Thank you and we hope to see you in our neck of the woods for many more events. How about some music in the park this summer?

I also want to thank everyone who attended the dinner because your incredible support will allow us to maintain the building and the grounds, pay the operating costs and bring a usable facility to our community without having to rely on taxes and monetary help from any agency. There were many local folks and out of town folks and we hope these events will open new doors and ideas for the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park.

Throughout the evening I was able to show many people through the center and talk with quite a few people that I had never actually met. In particular, I had the pleasure of visiting with Edwin and Vivian Wirkkala of Rosburg. They were a delightful couple and Vivian told me that she reads my column weekly. Thank you so much, Vivian. It means a lot knowing I have such a sweet and loyal reader of my column.

There will be no Free Friday Night Movie this week as we will be in the middle of our set-up for the Second Annual Community In-door Super Sale which will be held on March 28th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be more than 50 vendors on sale day featuring many different items, antiques or vintage items, collectibles, crafts, new and used or repurposed items, tools, and much more. If the weather cooperates, there will also be a moving sale outside. For more information call 360-465-2740 or 360-465-2689, or email cddutch@wwest.net.

During the sale hours, hamburgers, hot dogs and beverages will be available for purchase in the cafeteria, sponsored by the GRVC. Baked goods will also be provided, for sale by the Grays River United Methodist Church Friendship Circle.

The Rosburg Community Club will hold their annual Chicken Dinner on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Rosburg Hall. If you haven’t been to one of these dinners, you don’t know what you have missed. This delicious, good ole country style, home cooked meal is without a doubt one of the best meals you could wish for. The meal includes baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, an incredible salad bar and home made desserts.

The event is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for this group, so by participating you will be supporting their efforts to enrich our community. The group maintains the Rosburg Hall, the Rosburg Cemetery and provides a substantial scholarship to a local student each year as well as providing a place for meetings, large gatherings, birthday parties, etc. With our support, the Rosburg Community Club has always been one of the most generous and community minded groups in our area, so let’s keep them going in a forward direction. I would like to personally thank their club members for all the work they do and their dedication to a good cause.

Happy Birthday to the following celebrants this week: Trevor Tolva, Luke Johnson, Alexis Nortrup, Jenny Blake, Karen Kilponen, Scott Jacot, Nikki Footh, Chris Wilson, Whitney Caetano, Denise Blanchard, Josh Weston, Rob Crozier, Trudy Nelson, Cynthia Clark, Merlin Durrah, Candy Johnson, Cheyenne Engelson, Julie Larson,Trina Mennen, Christi Wirkkala and Brian Peters. Wishing each of you a perfect day.
