Julia Ellen Mackenzie, 76, of Cathlamet, passed away Jan. 17, 2015, at St. John Medical Center. She was born July 24, 1938, in Sacramento, Calif., to Charles Albert and Regina (Goldsworth) Beach, the third of 17 children.
Julia moved to the local area more than 20 years ago and was a member of the Longview School District’s janitorial staff. She was a member of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD). She enjoyed walking at the Elochoman Slough Marina, crossword puzzles, visiting and gardening. Julia was generous and willing to assist others in times of need. As her last act of kindness, Julia donated her remains to benefit the lives of others.
Julia is survived by two daughters, Aileen Dykstra of Cathlamet and Toni Peck of Longview; two grandsons, Hans Dykstra of Cathlamet and Nate Peck of Longview; three great grandchildren, Caleb Dykstra of Seattle, Jade Dykstra of Albuquerque, NM, and Tyler Peck of Longview; three sisters, Joy Smart, Sylvia Wood and Janey Bryan; and five brothers, James, Bradley, Stanley, Paul and Kenny Beach. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Don Mackenzie; a son, Lyle Curtis; and an infant daughter, Robin Denice.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m., Saturday at Oak Point Community Church with Pastor Douglas McMurray officiating. Arrangements are by Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park & Crematory.
