Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Commissioners of Port District No. 2 handled a variety of business when they met March 17 in Skamokawa Vista Park.
Manager Janet Bryan said recent tests of the park's water system were unsatisfactory, and the state Department of Health had ordered a chlorine treatment of the system.
The tests show the water is clean at the port's well but is unsatisfactory at the park restrooms.
Commissioners authorized Bryan to take steps to cure the deficiencies.
Skamokawa resident Jon Peterson was in attendance and, as manager of the Westside Water System, offered some comments.
The tests show the well water is pure, so the problem is in the distribution system, he said. There could be a leak that allows material into the water, or it could be the testing sites themselves, for restrooms are notoriously germy places.
The Westside system, he said, has three plumbed sampling sites so that its samples won't come from bathrooms.
In other business:
--Port commissioners approved a request from sisters Rachel Katyryniuk and Nicole Burkhalter to set up a mobile espresso stand in the park.
The stand would be seasonal and operate May through September.
--Commissioners also heard presentations from a tourist guidebook publisher and the operator of the port's new website. Both spoke of different marketing methods.
