Lawrence I. "Larry" Goodell

Lawrence Irving Goodell, 79, of Astoria, Oregon, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2014 with his wife and children by his side at OHSU.

He was born in Astoria, Oregon on January 21, 1935 to James and Lydia (Ero) Goodell of Pillar Rock, Washington. Following the passing of his parents when he was thirteen years old, he moved to Cathlamet to live with Ab and Bethenia Foster, where he was loved and treated as their own.

He attended Wahkiakum High School, where he played football and baseball. He graduated with the class of 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Africa. He was honorably discharged in 1958.

He had four children from his first marriage. In 1965 he married Sherry, the love of his life, and they had six children. He loved all of his children very much.

Larry was very proud of his Chinook Indian heritage and was an elder of the Chinook Indian Tribe. He was a commercial fisherman and worked at the Wauna Paper Mill for 25 years, retiring in 2000. He was a very kind, loving and friendly man with a good sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 12 siblings, and his daughter Jewell.

Surviving him are his wife Sherry, nine children, and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday March 28, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Astoria Elks Lodge.
