Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
James Wallace "Curly" Cochran, 92, passed peacefully on March 8, 2015 at Canterbury Gardens in Longview. He was born on May 25, 1922 in Marvel, Alabama to Wallace and Mildred (Johnsey) Cochran.
He came to Cathlamet in 1939 and in 1941 he married Delores Quigley. She survives him at home after 73 years of marriage. For 15 years he was employed at Crown Zellerbach before becoming the IWA Union Business Agent. He worked for the Union for 21 years before retiring in 1978. Delores and Curly enjoyed trips to Alabama to visit family, playing cards with friends and family and watching sporting events for kids and grandkids.
In addition to Delores he is survived by five children, "Wally" Cochran, Jr.( Kateri ), Wayne Cochran (Kay), Mildred McCullough (Kerry), Edward Cochran (Terry) and Steve Weston (Deb), 14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister Dean Farmer, a daughter Theresa Guillory in 1995, and grandson Marc Cochran in 2014.
Curly's family wish to thank the wonderful caregivers at Canterbury Gardens and with Hospice who gave him such great TLC.
A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet on Friday March 13 at 11a.m., with a reception to follow at Hotel Cathlamet. A visitation will be from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m., on Thursday March 12, at Dowling Funeral Home. Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
