It has been a busy week for the Wahkiakum School District Board of Directors. The board approved several new hires after an executive session following last week’s regular meeting and took action on three items, including one more hire, during a special meeting on Tuesday.

Mike Thomas was offered a non-continuing contract to finish out the year as the middle school science teacher.
The staff at the high school will be joined by Shelby Deaton as the new District Clerk, with a starting wage of $17.39/hour. Tamela Keith is the new Gear Up Coordinator and she will be receiving $20/hour.
Heidi Heywood is the new head coach for the middle school track team and she will be joined by a new assistant, Bob Gawith. Jeff Rooklidge was given the nod to continue as an assistant coach for the high school baseball team, and Stacey Wegdahl was approved as assistant coach for the high school softball team.
The board approved an inter-agency agreement with ESD 112 to provide consulting services for the district’s new security and technology plan as well as its implementation, which is expected to cost the school district $41,800.
The directors also voted to purchase a digital radio system from Day Wireless that will ease communication between the school and district buses in the amount of $38,890.14.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 24 at 5:30 p.m. in the Wahkiakum High School library.
